Lib Dems choose Layla Moran for Battersea

Battersea Lib Dems have chosen Layla Moran, as their prospective parliamentary candidate.

Layla Moran is a maths and physics teacher, and lives near Clapham Junction, in the centre of the constituency. At 27 she is the youngest of the major party candidates.

Commenting on her selection Layla said:

"I am thrilled and honoured to have been selected to fight Battersea for the Lib Dems. As a local resident and teacher I care passionately about creating a better, fairer future for our children, fixing the broken political system, especially in the wake of the expenses scandal, and reassuring residents that we have the most qualified chancellor, Vince Cable, who can get the economy moving and people back into work. Only the Liberal Democrats have the ability to deliver on what matters to Battersea residents. The Tories can't be trusted with their cuts, and promises to do almost nothing to change our political system. Labour have failed on almost everything they promised us in 1997. Whatever our current MP, Martin Linton, may think personally, he will vote in a prime minister, Gordon Brown, who has stood firmly against significant change to our political system. The time has come for change that works for Britain. With our vote growing every election we are in with a good chance of breaking the Tory-Labour Tweedle-Dum, Tweedle-Dee act that we've had here for so long. I hope residents will join with me to bring politics back to the local community, where it belongs."
